Production Consulting

Production Consulting

Ambition Studios offers production consulting: advisory guidance on producing, budgeting, crewing, and creative execution for brands, agencies, and creators handling their own productions. It is led by founder Nason Markwell and can include guidance on maximizing Canadian production tax credits (OCASE, CAVCO, provincial) and navigating complex or multi-country logistics. Consulting is advisory only. The client’s team retains responsibility for execution.

The studio does not present a separate consulting package or standalone advisory menu publicly. The work is producer-led, with responsibility extending across the creative, financial, and logistical sides of a project. If you need an experienced production perspective before committing to a full production, contact the studio to see whether the approach fits.

Strategic guidance for production teams

A consulting conversation can help a team answer questions such as: Is this idea filmable within the budget? What crew roles, equipment, and locations does the concept require? What is a realistic schedule for the scope? Is there a smarter way to structure the budget, including applicable tax credits? What risks (permitting, weather, travel, security, cast and crew availability) could derail the project if not addressed early?

Project contexts: commercial work (spots, campaigns, and brand films for brands and agencies) and original work (film and television projects developed as part of a focused slate). Projects that fit neither category are welcome too.

Where consulting guidance can help

  • A brand or agency with an internal team wants an experienced outside producer to review a budget or schedule before committing.

  • A production spanning multiple countries or complex or secure environments needs guidance on logistics such as carnets or security clearance.

  • A Canadian production wants to structure its budget around tax credits, including OCASE (Ontario Computer Animation and Special Effects Tax Credit), CAVCO (Canadian Audio-Visual Certification Office) federal certification, and provincial production tax credits.

  • A team has a concept or script and wants an assessment of what it will take to produce before committing resources.

Creative execution guidance

The studio connects creative intent with production decisions rather than treating development, staffing, and execution as separate handoffs, and keeps creative, financial, and logistical responsibility together. It can come in at any point in a production, either to advise or to support execution. It does not publish a fixed list of consulting deliverables, meeting formats, timelines, or rates. Whether guidance is a one-time strategy session, a project review, an ongoing advisory engagement, or part of a broader producing relationship is settled in an initial conversation.

Who provides the guidance

Production consulting is led by founder Nason Markwell, who produces commercial and narrative work and has hands-on experience across producing, cinematography, camera, gaffing, and editing, including work in complex, secure, and multi-country production environments.

Support for independent creators

The studio maintains an open-submission route for writers, directors, and creators making original work. The process is selective, with a small number of projects taken forward each year. Submitted creative work, scripts, decks, and project ideas are reviewed internally and received in confidence, and the studio does not claim ownership of submitted material. Submitting a project does not create a consulting engagement.

Location and contact

Based in Toronto, Canada, by appointment. For a consultation, email overseer@ambitionstudios.ca. For original work, use https://www.ambitionstudios.ca/pitchus. Include the project type, current stage, the guidance or decision needed, and any treatment, script, deck, or budget information available.

Confirm before booking

The studio does not currently publish consulting prices, minimum engagement sizes, session duration, budget-review methodology, written deliverables, or turnaround times, and does not state whether consulting is available independently of full production or producing services. Confirm these before treating a discussion as a booked engagement.
